STRAND ONE

Large Group Professional Development & Workshops

Professional Training/Facilitation for all staff, faculty, inclusive of many different stakeholders is important to build fluency on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. Workshops can align with specific needs of the work already being done at the school site, or choose from specific introductory workshops.

Sample Workshop Topics:

  • Identity, Privilege, & Power

  • Inclusion, Belonging & Othering

  • Moving from Discourse 1 - Discourse 2

  • Setting the Container for Equity Work: Listening & Communication Norms

  • Microaggressions, Identity-Based Harm & MicroInterventions

  • Warm Demander: Leading for Equity & Justice

“I didn't feel talked down to, or bogged down with technical jargon. I felt that the information provided was communicated in a way was easy to digest. I also appreciated the supportive tone and excitement at people's engagement. I believe it made people feel safe to engage more as our session went on.”

— Teacher Workshop Participant

“It’s a gift and privilege to be able to spend time on personal reflection and to share with our colleagues - it definitely builds community, our team and strengthens our bonds of trust and commitment to each other. Creating conditions for listening, reflection and growing skills and sensitivity to belonging and inclusion is highly impactful on our culture.”

— Teacher Small Group Committee Member, International School Participant

STRAND TWO

Small Groups Facilitation and Training

Small group facilitation can center around the needs of the group. This time is used to build relational trust, form working agreements, and provide strategic direction for the group.

Example Teams:

  • Executive leadership teams

  • Educational boards

  • DEIJ teacher committees

  • Focus groups

  • Affinity groups

“I really appreciated the safe space and time to listen to one another's stories, share, and learn. The sharing of vulnerable stories really gave me a lot to think about in regards to my own life and the layers of continual healing to be done.”

— API Affinity Group Participant

“Thank you for your time and energy, Jessica! You modeled everything for us and challenged us to keep growing. I think taking part in this is actually a gift for my students, loved ones, and myself.”

— Teacher Small Group Committee Member, International School Participant

STRAND THREE

1:1 & Small Group Leadership Coaching

Leadership coaching is an important support in DEIJ vision and work. Up-skilling DEIJ coordinators, principals, and other school leaders can provide the needed support in understanding the role of leaders to support grassroots efforts for change.

“Jessica's coaching helped me realize that as a leader, it is not my role to help people but empower them. This re-framing of my thinking has been very powerful and I saw evidence of this with my work with the school community. Our work has really helped me think about identity differently and how our own identities influence the perception of our work.”

— J. C., Primary School Leader

“I used to think that there was one recommended way to begin the DEIJ journey as a school leader. Through coaching with Jessica, I've come to learn that it's best to start where there is energy and that can then build momentum for change.”

— C.C., High School Principal
